S-Detect characterization of focal solid breast lesions: a prospective analysis of inter-reader agreement for US BI-RADS descriptors

2020

Background: To assess inter-reader agreement for US BI-RADS descriptors using S-Detect: a computer-guided decision-making software assisting in US morphologic analysis. Methods: 73 solid focal breast lesions (FBLs) (mean size: 15.9 mm) in 73 consecutive women (mean age: 51 years) detected at US were randomly and independently assessed according to the BI-RADS US lexicon, without and with S-Detect, by five independent reviewers. US-guided core-biopsy and 24-month follow-up were considered as standard of reference. Kappa statistics were calculated to assess inter-operator agreement, between the baseline and after S-Detect evaluation. Agreement was graded as poor (≤ 0.20), moderate (0.21–0.40)…

Organisational Learning and Knowledge Management: A Prospective Analysis Based on the Levels of Consciousness

2018

In this chapter, we analyse the concepts of organizational learning and knowledge management by relating them to the levels of human and organizational consciousness. In doing so, we understand the existence of different conceptualizations of both organizational learning and knowledge management, and relate them to several organizational models and levels of organizational learning. The learning organization model is related to the highest level of consciousness and to the highest level of learning: triple-loop learning. We associate this with an organizational learning perspective that stresses the importance of mindfulness, mindful learning, and with a knowledge management perspective tha…

Premature termination of epidural analgesia—A prospective analysis to improve quality

2009

Summary Background and objective Epidural analgesia (EA) is a gold-standard in post-operative pain control. Therefore, modern treatment concepts targeting early patient recovery regularly implement EA. Due to its increasing impact, EA should meet high quality standards in respect to application and maintenance. Though, daily practice often reveals EA-related problems, our investigation aimed to improve EA quality by assessing incidence and reasons of undeliberate, premature termination of post-operative EA. Methods In the first step all patients with post-operative EA were retrospectively studied covering a 6-month period (group 1). We analysed incidences and reasons of undeliberate termina…

Physical multimorbidity predicts the onset and persistence of anxiety: A prospective analysis of the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing.

2022

Background: The aims of the present study were to examine prospective associations of multimorbidity (i.e., >= 2 chronic conditions) at baseline with incident and persistent anxiety over a two-year follow-up period among Irish older adults, and to quantify the extent to which sleep, pain, and disability mediate the multimorbidity-anxiety relationship.& nbsp; Methods: Data from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Aging (TILDA) conducted between 2009 and 2011 with a follow-up after two years were analyzed. Anxiety referred to score >=& nbsp;8 on the anxiety section of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Lifetime diagnosis of 14 chronic conditions was obtained. Outcomes were in…

¿Un transhumanismo nietzscheano? Sobre la parcialidad del alegato

2020

Prospective analysis of infectious disease surveillance data using syndromic information.

2014

In this paper, we describe a Bayesian hierarchical Poisson model for the prospective analysis of data for infectious diseases. The proposed model consists of two components. The first component describes the behavior of disease during nonepidemic periods and the second component represents the increase in disease counts due to the presence of an epidemic. A novelty of our model formulation is that the parameters describing the spread of epidemics are allowed to vary in both space and time. We also show how syndromic information can be incorporated into the model to provide a better description of the data and more accurate one-step-ahead forecasts. These real-time forecasts can be used to …

Real life data on elbasvir/grazoprevir efficacy, safety and drug-drug interaction profile in patients with chronic hepatitis C viral infection: a pro…

2019

Introduction: In a previous study, based on PITER cohort data, it was reported that of patients, undergoing direct acting antiviral (DAA) therapy, 30%-44%, are at risk of potential drug-drug interactions (DDI). Aim: We aimed to evaluate the prospective profile of elbasvir/grazoprevir (EBR/GZR) efficacy and safety combined with real life comedication profile. Method: Data from 312 patients (mean age 63 ± 10 years; 44% male, 90% of genotype 1.85% fibrosis stage ≤ F3, 15% with child A cirrhosis), enrolled in PITER by 15 clinical centers and treated with EBR/GZR, with at least three months of follow up after the end of treatment, were evaluated. Comedication profiles (no changes, drugs interrup…

Dissatisfaction with post-operative pain management—A prospective analysis of 1071 patients

2005

Summary A total number of 1071 patients was investigated using a modified questionnaire of the American Pain Society to evaluate the pain profile and satisfaction/dissatisfaction on the second post-operative day after different types of surgery (abdominal, traumatic, orthopaedic, urologic, gynaecologic, ENT). Patients were either treated with non-standardized pain management (no measurement of pain intensities, no regular administration of analgesics) (non-APS; n = 575) under responsibility of surgical specialties or with standardized pain management (regular assessment of pain and dose adaptation with i.v. PCA or epidurals) (APS; n = 496) by an anaesthesiology-based acute pain service. Pat…

Familial and Parental Predictors of Physical Activity in Late Adolescence: Prospective Analysis over a Two-Year Period

2021

Children’s health behaviors are highly influenced by their parents and family. This study aimed to prospectively evaluate the parental/familial factors associated with physical activity levels (PALs) among older adolescents. The participants were 766 adolescents, who were prospectively observed at baseline (when they were 16 years of age), at first follow-up measurement (FU1
